Top 5 Benefits of Using Natural Health and Beauty Products

If you've never tried using natural health and beauty products, now is the time to go green with your morning regimen. When you're accustomed to doing things the way you always have, you may not see why you would want to switch to natural health and beauty products. Once you compare the benefits of natural products to the way things used to be done, however, you'll see why you would want to adopt a new, natural lifestyle with health and beauty products that can help you look and feel great.

Benefits of Natural Beauty Products:

  1. Earth-friendly: Products made from conventionally produced ingredients can have a negative environmental impact. The manufacturing of chemical-heavy health and beauty products puts those chemicals, and many more, into the air and water, and even more go down your drain in your own home. When ingredients for natural health and beauty products are farmed and manufactured organically, fewer chemicals are put into the air and water.
  2. Avoid irritation: Harsh chemicals, artificial colors and fillers in skin care products and makeup can cause redness, irritation and breakouts. Many people are even allergic to chemicals commonly found in conventionally produced products. Natural makeup, skin care products and body products work with your skin instead of against it.
  3. Save your nose: Artificial fragrances are designed to cover up the smell of other chemicals used in traditional health and beauty products. The effect is that you have a chemical to cover up another chemical, and all those chemical smells can cause headaches in many people. Natural health and beauty products smell like their natural ingredients, not a cocktail of chemicals. Natural health and beauty products scented with natural essential oils can even provide aromatherapy.
  4. Paraben-free: Parabens are used in conventionally produced health and beauty products as a preservative to extend the shelf life of products. Parabens, however, are synthetic and mimic your body's natural hormones. This can alter the functions of your body's endocrine system. Natural health and beauty products use natural preservatives, such as grapefruit seed extract, that won't affect your body.
  5. Outside to the inside: Skin is our largest organ and also a gateway to the blood stream. Chemicals rubbed into the skin enter our blood stream quickly -- sometimes faster even than if we were to eat them. The average woman applies up to 200 chemicals to her skin every day through cosmetics, lotions and hair-care products. By using natural health and beauty products, you can eliminate many of these harmful chemicals and replace them with natural ingredients that not only protect you from harm, but can even be beneficial to your body.

Hair Care Tips for Preventing Split Ends

Everyone loves the look and feel of healthy hair. With the right hair care tips and products, your hair can be lush, silky and shiny every day, too. Split ends are the most common cause of dry, damaged and dull hair, so preventing split ends can save you from bad hair days now and in the long run. The following hair caretips can help you keep your hair healthy and happy.

Hair Care for Split Ends:

  1. Trim down: The number one hair care key topreventing split ends is to get your hair trimmed every six weeks. It can be tempting to forego trims if you're trying to grow your hair out, but trimming your hair can prevent breakage and help it grow longer faster. If you're trying to grow your hair, you can ask your stylist to "dust" your hair -- barely cut the ends to remove the most damaged parts.
  2. Cool it: Heat styling sucks moisture out of your hair faster than just about anything else, causing the ends of your hair to become dry and brittle. For the best hair care, avoid your blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron where you can, and set all hair care tools to the lowest temperature setting when you must use them. You can also protect your hair with thermal-protection hair care products. After heat styling, give your hair a shot of cold with the cool-air button on your blow dryer. Cooling your hair down fast reseals the cuticle, allowing less moisture to escape.
  3. Brush it off: Forget 100 strokes a day; brushing your hair too much or incorrectly can do more harm than good. Use a wide tooth comb to detangle your wet hair after shampooing to prevent breakage and invest in a boar-bristle brush to use on dry hair for the best hair care. Always work from the bottom up, loosening tangles with your fingers before brushing through them. While brushing your hair too much can cause damage, good brushing can actually be a beneficial hair care practice. Brush through your hair once a day with a boar bristle brush to distribute healthy oils and stimulate the cuticle.
  4. Chemical peel: Coloring, perming or chemically straightening your hair can strip it of moisture and cause permanent damage. While eliminating all chemical hair care treatments is best, it can be hard to completely give up your beautiful highlights. If you must chemically treat your hair, try to go longer between salon visits and ask your stylist to use the mildest hair care chemicals possible. At home, use shampoos and hair care products designed specifically for chemically treated hair to help maintain and restore moisture.
  5. Mandatory moisture: Over-shampooing your hair can be just as harmful as heat or chemicals. Unless you have overly oily hair, cut back to shampooing your hair every other day or less. You don't want to cut back on conditioning your hair though. Use beauty products like a leave-in conditioner on days you don't shampoo; then treat your hair to a deep conditioner once a week to keep it moisturized and strong.

Best Conditioner for Your Hair

Healthy hair makes you look and feel better, so why not invest in conditioner that strengthens and protects your hair? Whether your hair is thick, thin, straight or curly, you can find hair conditioner that softens and smoothes each strand to make your hair look great every day. Read on for tips on finding the best conditioner for your hair.

Buying Hair Conditioner:

  1. Buy a volumizing conditioner for thin or brittle hair. Thin hair can look limp, especially when blow-dried or heavily styled with several products, but a volumizing conditioner can restore some body to your hair. Those with thin hair should look for a lightweight volumizing conditioner that won't weigh your hair down. This type of hair conditioner can also repair brittle hair, and a shampoo and conditioner set that provides double the moisture is always a good choice.
  2. Look for a moisturizing conditioner for curly hair. Great hair starts in the shower, so If you have wavy or curly hair, purchase a moisturizing conditioner that smoothes dry strands. Work the conditioner from the roots to the ends and leave it on your hair for a few minutes to penetrate the strands. In addition to a moisturizing conditioner, you can also purchase a leave-in conditioner to use a few times a week.
  3. Find a deep conditioner for damaged hair. Coloring, perming and heat styling hair can damage the roots and leave the ends split and fragile. A deep conditioner can restore moisture and softness to weak hair, and it can also be used once a month to maintain healthy hair. Look for a deep conditioner with vitamins and extracts for shiny, smooth hair, and use a leave-in conditioner a few times a week to repair damage as well.
  4. Purchase a conditioner for normal hair. If your hair remains soft and manageable while you wash and style it, lucky you. Find the best conditioner and hair products by selecting scents you like and purchasing a shampoo and conditioner set with extracts that improve shine and body. Deeply moisturizing conditioners may weigh normal hair down, while lightweight volumizing conditioners could leave your hair lacking shine. Stick with a conditioner made for normal hair to ensure your locks look fabulous.

How to keep hair healthy in the heat

As temperatures creep up and your scarp becomes more oily, you may be tempted to banish the conditioner from your shower. Turns out that’s not a good idea. In fact, your hair’s more likely to dry out from the sun, swimming, and more frequent washing. How do you cope without creating an oil slick?
Condition only the ends of your hair — the oldest and most damaged part.
• Switch from a heavy conditioner to a lighter formula to avoid buildup. Look for a mousse or foam (e.g., Dove Foaming Conditioner) which feels like shaving cream and rinses completely clean.
• Use a leave-in conditioner that contains sunscreen; be sure to comb it through from roots to ends.
